The First Period

We’re into the second third of our 18-week season and so far we have seen nothing but fiery competition the whole way through. The introduction of a ninth team spot has proven its worth with more rivalries being formed and generally more evenly matched fixtures along the top and bottom tiers of our league. Some have struggled more than others, but in any case the whole community is enjoying Season 7 with each and every team working hard to achieve their respective aspirations and have a good time while doing it.

In the month of October two players especially have shone within the league - both being captains of two new league team debutants Infamous and In Progress. Congratulations Krow and Enki, our October Player of the Month awardees!

As of Round 5, Krow’s goal tally has not only climbed him to the top of the goal rankings, but his team Infamous has also earned an equal spot on top of the table, clutching clinical victories over a few strong competitors such as league favourites Quite Quality. It is evident that his leadership skills on and off the field, with the additional help from his counterpart Totti, has successfully provoked a strong sense of comradery and fellowship. Such fellowship is key to success in this league, and Krow will be wanting to keep his team in such form for the remainder of the season.

Enki with his team In Progress, even through the recent departure of his fellow captain, is certainly proving his critics wrong with his teams and his own success so far this season. Currently ranked 7th on the goal scoring chart, he proves to be a prominent forerunner up front for his team and has also bagged a series of exciting signings to help strengthen his team. Under his leadership, In Progress has beaten league hot-shots Toxic and Hellspawns and therefore makes no secret of his goal for his team this season to earn a finals spot come Round 18.

Now that the muscles are pumping and the juices are flowing within all teams, the league enters Round 7 and beyond this weekend. We are coming to the point where there is no room for mucking around. The competition on both sides of the table is so stiff that every point counts. Time will only tell how the next few weeks will pan out.

Bringing The Horizon

Over the past three weeks the league has watched 7 teams give it all they can in hopes to achieve a spot in our glorious league’s seventh season – one boasting to be one of the biggest and best yet with the inclusion of a 9th team spot and a well spanned array of skill that can be produced by all teams. The signings have been made, the games have been won; and now we all look forward to the season upon us in great anticipation.

Of the 7 teams that competed in the relegations series, only 5 teams would be given the chance to play in the newly formatted 18 week competition. Interestingly, the only team that is returning from last season is the new look Hellspawns team who claim to be the most cohesive side yet and will be wanting to regain their former glory days back from the league’s infant seasons. Next is Quite Quality’s youth syndicate Questionable Quality, captained the third sportswoman to grace this league, also with high aspirations with her team that has been together for some time now. Velocity’s skipper, Deejay, silenced critics when he and his team pulled off a comfortable win against Devastation to earn a spot in the league; and as the season progresses I’m sure he’ll be wanting to do a lot more of such performances.

To join the aforementioned teams, through the struggle of fielding 5 players in two of their games in the relegation competition, Infamous has still managed to slide into Season 7 and will be wanting to make it a rather successful maiden season as a team. Lastly, the combination of league greats Rich and Enki along with the likes of more amateur players form our last team to play in the league, In Progress.

In addition to the five previously outlined teams, of course the non-recently promoted teams; Impervious, Quite Quality, All Stars and Toxic, will also be joining the fray that is Season 7 of our beloved ACSSL.

It’s been all preparation up until this point. All the training regimes and team building exercises will hopefully pay off as the brand new season kicks off this weekend when All Stars take on league debutants Velocity at 8pm this Friday night. As always, the commentary team will be there to cast the occasion, so jump to the TV and watch as the new season unfolds to what will be a spectacular 18 weeks!

Living Up to Their Name

It is customary for Grand Finals to end each season to be a nail-biter, and Season 6’s dramatic coup lived up to all expectations with Impervious very narrowly getting the better of QQ in the dying moments of extra time with defender Xplosiv inflicting a heartbreaking climax in the final attacking play of the informally named “silver goal” to bring victory to Impervious second time running. As suggested, the match was heatedly fought for the whole 70 minutes of play and QQ is to be commended for the calibre of skill they produced. The game served as an entertainment extravaganza for the capacity crowd – it will go down in the history books as one of the closest grand finals the league has seen yet. The Impervious v QQ rivalry will continue burning into Season 7.

The Player of the Finals Award has been awarded to the primary figurehead of the triumphant Impervious squad – a player who has lead teams to the ultimate victory untouched for all seasons to date; Froob. Arguably the best defender in the sport, Froob has been the forerunner for every champion team, formulating coercive team plays and strategy in order to continually bring out the best of his players time after time. It was his 59th minute goal in the grand final that equalised with QQ to bring forth extra time – but one testimony to his focus and leadership qualities he processes. Congratulations Froob on your longstanding achievement and Player of the Finals accolade none can argue that it is truly deserved.

Every season, there is always one player who every week will constantly perform to a level that respective referees cannot deny voting for player of the match again and again. Such players are standouts in the league, being the best at what they do week in week out. This season, the most proficient player has been accumulatively awarded to the QQ main man up front, Hrvat. With 81 goals and 72 assists to his name this season, Hrvat has evidently shown his formidable quality up front with his fellow QQ strike partners. With this award Hrvat has become the first ever player to be awarded the Player of the Season Award for a second time, his first being in leagues first ever season. He was a legend then and he is a legend now; any aspiring up and coming striker should look to his performance for inspiration as his prowess has allowed him to arguably acclaimed as the league’s best striker. Congratulations Hrvat, a well deserved Player of the Season.

To cap off the list of awards, the illustrious Golden Boot is to be presented to the player that has scored the most goals this season. This season we see Scoper winning this award for a third time now, an achievement only accomplished by league giant Roxas. In Scoper’s 31 periods this season he has managed to score a whopping 103 goals in total, a new record as far as total goal count is concerned. Congratulations Scoper for imprinting your name into the ACSSL history books.

And with all of the games, awards and glamour of Season 6 out of the way, the league now looks forward to its seventh season! With the disbandment of Kewell’s Jewells, Underdogs and Valiant along with the relegation of Hellspawns there are a total of 4 spots open for next season which is sure to produce an interesting relegations saga as many teams have already applied for the competition. Team entries close Friday 28th August, so if you are planning on competing in Season 7 be sure to contact Penor to submit your team details for relegations that commence the following week on Friday 4th September.

The transition period between seasons is always in interesting one. Full of teams arising and disbanding, surprising and not so surprising signings, a bit of banter here and there and preparations being made for the proceeding season – the league is full of life and activity. Also, be sure to check out some of the statistics available for view on the main page, as well as check out the newly updated Goal of the Round videos or even download both the demo and commentary to the Season 6 grand final. Good luck to all up and coming relegation teams – watch this space to see who will taste the flaming competition of ACSSL Season 7.

Prepare for Glory

The regular season ended with two immensely crucial games on both sides of the table with Toxic taking on the concluding Kewell’s Jewells outfit, where at the top of the table QQ sparred off with league leaders Valiant; both games have fairly significant ramifications on the proceedings leading up in following weeks. Toxic needed at least 1 point to secure fifth spot; presuming Hellspawns were to lose to in-form All Stars. Managing to secure the 3 points over KJ, Toxic were able to avoid relegations for the first time in the clubs history after a splendid season under their new name.

QQ had a difficult task ahead of them on to other spectrum. To take second place and move straight into major semi-finals they needed a win over league giants Valiant. QQ came in all guns blazing, with Valiant shortly replying with a few goals of their own. However, just when it looked like a comeback may have been on the cards QQ rose to the occasion and managed to topple the leaders 16-5, solidifying their position in second due to goal difference.

One player that was exceptional in front of goals in this bout and more so this season for QQ particularly is the prominent striker, Tevez – ACSSL’s Player of the Month for July ’09. Since his rapid introduction to the league in Season 3, he has obtained many accolades for himself over his time, earning PotM once before and also earning Player of the Finals in his debut season, as well as playing significant roles in strong teams like Armada, NSW and now QQ. It’ll be fascinating to watch him play in these coming finals to see if he can manage to continue this string of immaculate form. Congratulations, Tevez!

And so brings us to that time again where the league prepares to lay witness to yet another nail-biting conclusion to a season, with these particular finals being dubbed the most competitive and exhilarating series seen so far. On paper there is not really much separating the top 4 teams and it seems that it might all come down to which team will dig the deepest when glory is on the line.

It could be a combined immense team effort that brings victory, it could be a divine stroke of brilliance from one player to seal off the game – the ambiguity of it all will only add to the occasion and will make for some unforgettable moments.

The Home Stretch

It’s that time of the season again when the State of Origin tournament has been played and some players start making plans for ventures beyond the current season; but for now teams start preparing for their final matches of the standardised competition.

Newly reigning State of Origin champions Victoria, led by the renowned Xpoze, entered the sub-competition with only one immediate challenger - Kirkn’s New South Welshmen who had a bone to pick with the Victorians after seizing complete dominance over the competition by losing their title last season. These two teams squared off first with the victorious Victorians walking out with a fairly comfortable 12-6 win over their counterparts; while Penor’s SAWA team and Roxas’ Queenslanders played the night after with Queensland winning the bout 9-6. The Victorians kept up their strong form by toppling over the Queensland side 19-9 in the grand final to become consecutive champion of states. The continuation of the State of Origin currently looks rather dubious, but in the meantime congratulations to Xpoze and the Victorians for yet another impressive origin campaign.

In particular, there is one player that plays for not only the champion Victoria side, but also for league leaders Valiant. Intangible, June’s Player of the Month awardee, is Valiant’s second highest goal scorer (sixth overall) and highest assist maker (third overall). Her and Kirkn’s swap between Valiant and All Stars has obviously pulled off for herself and her team as the partnership of Scoper, Rich and herself has left opposition defenses to wake. She is known as the “girl that gives the balls” for her astounding ability to execute some of the most clinical passing the league has seen in its 6 seasons. Congratulations Tangy for being June’s PotM.

Once again we start to narrow down to what looks to be yet another exciting climax to the season with only 3 rounds of regular play to go and then finals. The top four seems to be set in concrete now, however the teams within this group are all still working hard to be strong minor premiership contenders. On the other side of the spectrum it would seem that Kewell’s Jewells and Underdogs are to play relegations if they so desire to play next season, however the fight for fifth place is still a heated battle between Hellspawns and Toxic as both teams aim to stay out of the relegations bracket with only one point differentiating them at the moment. Success in the next three weeks will be vital within this small rivalry, as for the rest of the teams to end their respective seasons on a high note.

The competition has been fierce in all aspects of this season and has shown to be yet another entertainment galore for all parties - let’s hope that this capacious amount of enthusiasm and vigor is carried on into the final leg of Season 6.

Mid-Season Delight

As the season reaches the half way mark our views broaden as to who will and has been the top notch and the lowest of lows this season. The top 4 table is looking like most of us expected, but looking deeper into each round reveals a few upsets. We saw a founding team, the All Stars, fall victim to toxics poison, losing 12-8 in what most of us would have thought to be a comfortable win. But from that came a vengeful All Stars team, vengeance which was seen when they played against team Impervious, who they defeated 12-11 in a very tight game. And last but certainly not least, we saw the season 6 debut team Valiant overpower the table front runners 11-10 in what was probably the most exciting match this season.

Another month has passed, as another Player of the Month arrives. In the month of May we saw a few great battles between the top sides, creating a tight array of votes. But one player prevailed. This player has scored 43 goals and has 29 assists in 15 periods, giving him 2.9 goals per period, an astonishing achievement no doubt. It is my pleasure to award the May, Player of the Month award to the QQ striker, Hrvat! He’s been a great asset to QQ so far this season and continues to perform well with his team. Congratulations to Hrvat!

As some of you may or may not know, the Goal of the Season for Season 5 had not been chosen. This is no longer the case. After consulting a group of players who we believed had a sense of judgment which would grade each Goal of the Round fairly, Season 5’s Goal of the Season was…… H$ | Nikv’s beautiful trix-touch to himself, and amazing C. Ronaldo style top right corner finish, which can be seen, here. Congratulations to Nikv!

And now on to what lies ahead. It is time for players to part from their respective teams and use the skills they have for their state of origin. Last season we saw a new state take the championship, when the New South Wales giants were squashed in the remaining minutes by a great ball from Xpoze to Messi to give Victoria the win, and the first ever State of Origin championship to not be won the New South Wales. State of Origin applications are now open to anyone, and can be found here. Just follow the guidelines and you should be given access to your states forum.

That’s about it for now, let’s hope this season brings more upsets and creates more rivalries to make this seasons finals, one of the greatest.

Update, POTM and Donations!!

As five rounds have passed since the beginning of the season, we have witnessed a very exciting start to the season with a few shock results and a very interesting league table. The fresh S6 team, Toxic, lies in fourth place after a very strong start, almost upsetting reigning champions Impervious who are currently in third, and also achieving a shock win over a very lifeless AS side that are currently sixth on the table. The other fresh S6 team, Quite Quality, lead the table going undefeated giving them a 5-0 record which amounts to 15 points. The newly formed side, Valiant, sit in second, just ahead of Impervious only by goal difference, with remaining teams HellSpawns, Kewell’s Jewells and Underdogs sitting in fifth, seventh and eighth respectively.

Now onto the Player of the Month award. The Player of the Month award for April will be shared by arguably the two most in form strikers this season, those two being the Toxic striker’s main man, Bocco, and the highly regarded Impervious striker, Roxas! Bocco, who helped lead Toxic to fourth place on the table, has had an amazing start to the season, spear-heading the Toxic attack and managing to score 29 goals in the first 4 rounds. Roxas has also had a great start to the season managing to help his team, Impervious, win some crucial matches to keep them high on the ladder.

A recent event, involving the funding of the ACSSL, is in need of an update to the public. As many of you know, the ACSSL fund was running low, but a kind reminder that donations were crucial revealed that this league has further to go. Within such a short space of time a figure of approximately $800 was raised, purely through user donations, which will be able to fund the servers for months to come. The ACSSL administration team would like to thank those who donated for their extreme generosity in what could have been a tough time for the league. That about sums it up for the first month of Season 6; let’s hope there’s more great action as the league matches continue!

Introducing, Season 6!

Hope everyone is having a good Easter and long weekend.

It certainly has been a long time since the main page has had an update or two, in fact it has almost been a month now since Fowler announced the end of the season and all the awards that go with it. [funnily enough it has been about that long since he last showed up to an AS scrim...] But alas, we can finally look ahead to Season 6 and the opening round which gets underway on Friday night between QQ and the All Stars, kickoff is due at 8pm so make sure you are in Vent about 7:45 and I'm sure somebody will step up and do commentary [looking at you Ivo]

As you may or may not have started to realise the website is currently being updated to prepare for the new season, so it will be good to finally kick the new season into gear. Another thing long overdue is the votes, which are [finally] displayed to us mere mortals for Season 5, so go have a look and abuse whoever you must. Lastly the High Council would like to inform you of a few things that will be happening soon, one being the voting of Goal of the Season for Season 5, this is I believe being voted by the High Council and experienced league players instead of a community wide thing which has been an issue in the past. The second thing being voted on currently is the implementation of new keeper skins, more information on this and the new ideas behind new league changes can be found in this following thread, here.

That's really about it fellow ACSSL players, hopefully the first round goes ahead without dramas, I'm looking forward to finally having the season start, this season does promise to be an extremely tight affair as personally I've never seen the talent so evenly spread out amongst the teams, so good luck everyone for this upcoming season, hopefully you hear from me a few more times on the front page as the season progresses.

Maha The Great

In the closest final yet in ACSSL history, Impervious' debut season has been capped with an historic golden goal victory over fellow title challengers Armada to claim the Season 5 premiership title. In a historic coup for Impervious captain Mahamadou/Froob, he has now lead two sides to premiership glory and holds a formidible 5-0 record in grand finals. Mahamadou expressed his delight at his and his sides achievement, and was duly crowned Captain of the year in our recent ACSSL awards ceremony. Commiserations must be handed to Armada, who have now lost two extra time grand finals in a row and unfortunately have now disbanded due to the short-term retirement of inspirational captain Kirkn. We expect to see the remnants of Armada in a new side which will be contesting relegations.

Before we mention relegations though, we will recap the accolades handed out this season. The Golden boot award, handed out to the highest scorer in the season has been claimed by the now defunct-TDT striker Scoper. It is scopers second golden boot award, matching the one he achieved in Season 3 with his former side AS. Surprisingly, Scoper was not present in TDT's elimination final against Armada and it will forever remain a question of what if, had Scoper been there. Over the course of the finals, there is also an award handed out that is separate from our Player of the Season award that deems the recipient the best player of the finals. It is no surprise to the community that Armadas resurgence was due to one player, legendary ACSSL keeper Tortilla. Displaying his fabled shot stopping and assurance at the back, Tortilla was desperately unlucky to be on the losers end of the final and combined with captain Kirkn, dragged Armada to the brink of an historic victory, but it was not to be. It is unlikely that there will be any disagreements with the recipient of this accolade, with the majority of the community voting for Tortilla in unison. Congratulations to Tortilla and his remarkable finals campaign, we hope to see him remain in the league for the upcoming Season 6. Our final award is the well known player of the season award, which as widely known is decided by a 3-2-1 voting of each league match by the attending referees. The winner of this seasons Player of the Season was a player that ironically enough, was not involved in the Grand Final which has been the case comparatively for the past 4 seasons. Our Player of the Season for Season is none other than our very own community Administrator Xpoze. Xpoze capped a wonderful individual season with HS, stepping out of the shadows from his SK predecessors to establish himself as one of the leagues defensive rocks. Although HS made the finals, they were quickly bundled out in the first match but it was the almighty effort of Xpoze to get them there in the first place, not only being watertight at the back but also chipping in up front for some crucial goals. Xpoze is currently a free agent and looking for a team in Season 6, and with this addition to his trophy cabinet I'm sure there will be no shortage of interested parties.

Finally, as Season 5 has now come to a close, now begins the rise of Season 6 and the fresh hope of successful season for 8 sides. However, before league business gets underway we must first decide who is worthy of joining the current league sides. Relegations will commence on the 27th of February, with nominations to close this coming Friday the 20th of February. If you are interested in making or joining a side, there is no better chance than now but you must be quick as you only have until this friday to nominate your side.

Stay tuned for the next update, which will announce the successful relegation candidates and the starting date of Season 6.

You gotta go there to come back

The pointy end of the season has dawned upon ACSSL in Season 5, with front runners TDT becoming the first side to go undefeated throughout a season, a magnificent achievement for a side that was only resurrected two seasons prior. Their record breaking run includes 12-game winning streak which stretches back to October 2008. Deservedly showing that their position is no fluke, TDT have hit the back of the net an incredible 47 times more than their nearest opponent Impervious. This deadly showing up in front is complemented perfectly in tune at the back, as their watertight defence has only conceded a mere 73 goals at a frugal rate of 5.3 goals a game, or just under 2 goals a period. A symphonic fusion of clinical finishing and determined defending, TDT have been setting the benchmark this season and has left their mark on ACSSL history with their record breaking run. It is no surprise then that Januarys player of the month is none other than TDT striker Statica. TDT's run to the top has coincided with Staticas superb showings, and this month has been no exception. In the three league games contested (due to Armada forfeit in the final round), Statica has hit a remarkable 24 goals and 21 assists, an average of 8 goals and 7 assists in each of the past three league matches. This has helped TDT solidify their place at the top and fire the first shot of the finals. There have been rumours however that cultured striker Statica could be on the move at the conclusion of this season, but at the time of publication we could get no word on what his future plans are. Whether that has any impact on TDT's title charge, we will find out shortly.

In other ACSSL-related news, the finals now may be out of reach for the bottom three sides, but the fight is not over yet as relegation beckons. Stay tuned to ACSSL as after the finals have been completed, the fight for S6 survival begins.

Double Stuffed

As the new year approaches, the month of December comes to a close and what a month of it has been in the ACSSL with two historical moments unfolding. For the first time since the birth of the league New South Wales were dethroned by Victoria as State of Origin champions. The Big V, lead by Captain Xpoze fought off a fighting Queensland outfit in the first round, and managed to hold off a comeback by the Queenslanders in the last period. Then the Vics went on to do the unthinkable and beat New South Wales by just one goal. New South Wales took an early lead and held onto the lead til the last period where in the dying minutes of the game Victoria leveled the scores. With mere seconds on the clock Captain Xpoze produced a magical ball to Impervious striker, Messi who sunk the ball into the back of the net in which possibly would of been his most cynical finish to date. Congratulations to Victoria and Captain Xpoze on taking out Season 5 state of Origin.

Another ACSSL first comes with crowning the first ever Goalkeeper player of the Month. I would like to announce Player of the Month December 2008 to Impervious Co Captain Oreo. Oreo has produced some rock solid efforts in the net this season for Impervious. Oreo is arguably the best goal keeper to ever grace the ACSSL, and being the only keeper in history to be awarded with Player of the Month may just plead his case. I congratulate Oreo on this historic Player of the Month December title.

POTM: November 2008 & SoO

As the season passes its half way mark, we see another month of unpredictability go past and also the highly anticipated State of Origin draw nearer. This month has brought many mixed feelings with sides crumbling under the pressure, captains departing, players changing sides, new faces joining the league and league powerhouses continuing to dominate. With the month of November done and dusted, comes another player of the month. To no surprise, this stand out attacking defender has been a vital addition to the HellSpawns recent successes. I congratulate H$ spearhead defender Xpoze, with Season 5 player of the month November. The HellSpawns have had a rollarcoaster season with looses that should of been wins and matches against stronger sides that have slipped up. With that being said, the form of Xpoze hasn't faded, as he continues to produce the goods on the scoreboard and in the defensive half.

A reminder from the ACSSL administration, that all State of Origin team sheets must be handed in by Friday the 5th of December. The entry to the sides have already closed. The State of Origin last season saw New South Wales take out the hattrick in State of Origin victories. With a lot of new faces around, and old lions no longer keen, who knows what State could come out on top. With season 5 already set to make history by crowning new League Champions, will season 5 also be remembered for New South Wales finally being dethroned as Australia's finest combination of KA stars?

November brought the community several memorable moments, as the holiday season kicks in, it is now make or break as the competition is destined to heat up in December.

State of Origin commences on the 19th of December 2008

The Robbie Fowler Fund

As many of you may know by now our dear friend and self proclaimed "Godfather" of ACSSL Robbie Fowler has fallen on some hard times after the recent ferocious storms that hit Queensland. Our poor Robbie was one of the unfortunate ones that had to watch his house and all of his possesions be destroyed and swept away by the flooding that engulfed his entire household. From what we've been told by Robbie it seems that his insurance company is not coming to the fold to help out which has been another kick in the nuts when he's already down.

Shocked by this news, a former team mate and good friend of Rob's, Irish came to me in an attempt to get some sort of funds towards Robbie to help him out in this dark time. Thus the Robbie Fowler Fund was created

Robbie has done so much for this league and been the heart and soul of our community. He has invested alot of time and money into this league to keep our servers up and running for our enjoyment. Show your appreciation for all he has done for each and everyone of you by making a donation towards this fund. Simply click on the Ribbon to the left and follow the donation details from there.

POTM: October 2008

With four rounds gone, the month has been concluded and the votes for the Player of the Month October have been tallied. The player who took out this month’s award is neither stranger to the spotlight nor a stranger to the player of the month award. I congratulate Impervious superstar striker Roxas on adding another Player of the month title to his name making it his fifth title. Roxas has played a key role in Impervious this season, whose side have shocked many with its push for a top 2 spot on the table and its impressive win over league giants Armada.

We are now close to the half way point of the season, wins at this point are vital as the season is arguably undergoing its most competitive season to date. Can Impervious and The Dream Team keep the form following and hold out for the rest of the season to maintain their top two positions? Will the lads at Armada pull up their socks and turn the league on its head as many thought they would this season? The all important 4th spot still hangs in the balance can The Drunk Muppets hold on to their spot? Or will the HellSpawns get their act together and play at the quality level the side has produced in its past? At the bottom end of the scale The All-Stars and Kewell’s Jewell’s both sit on one win, but both would like to add some points to their tallies and hope to not only stay clear of relegations but even make a push for top 4. Sitting in last, and with little momentum are The Venomous Shooters. VS are known for survival, but with no wins after five rounds will this be the end of VS?

Only time will tell as Season Five is set to make history.

Lights, Camera, Action!

First things first. My appologies for the lack of updates on the main page. I've been breaking news via Wavelength of late and found it alot easier. We should probabbly find someone who is dedicated to writing up news reports for our league aye?

Now lets get down to business. As many of you may know recently our foreign correspondent and ex-HellSpawns striker, Zidane has put together a movie dedicated to the memories of his season 1 HellSpawns side. The movie has recieved a much deserved praise and rightfully so as it is in my belief the best video thus far to be made about our game.

The movie was so good and captured every aspect of our game and community so well that i thought it deserved a front page write up/announcement. Anyone who is visiting our league for the first time, take a sneak peak at what our league and this game is all about. Whether it be Yianni going postal on the league or Nikv mooing, you're gonna love it.

Click the above link to view or if you want to download a higher quality version, head to the downloads section and find the link under movies.

Thanks for the Memories

Way back in March we saw the fourth season of ACSSL get underway, with an interesting transfer window it seemed Soccer Kings were once again the team to beat, if there was any doubt in the minds of the public it started to ebb away after their first round dismantling of the All Stars.
As the season progressed, Armada started to hit their straps and looked likely that they would once again be there or there abouts come finals time. Armada lead by their captain Kirkn, won important games against The Dream Team and Soccer Kings nearing the end of the season as they took out the minor premiership for the first time, with their new found success they entered the final series full of confidence and as firm favourites.
It seemed a case of 'same old same old' for Soccer Kings who had a habit or producing their best football when it counts, with the big news of their imminent disbanding right before the grand final it seemed to add that added incentive required for the Soccer Kings to go out with a bang. And that they did, in one of the most memorable games the league has ever seen, the Soccer Kings and Armada drew in normal time and went to extra time in only the 2nd time in ACSSL history as the Soccer Kings proved too strong once again and now bow out of the league as the most successful team ever.
It comes as no surprise that this year's Player of the Season comes from the team who dominated the regular season, Armada comfortable took out the minor premiership and it's thanks to their captain Kirkn. Kirkn lead by example, often noted for his words spoken throughout the community, but it's obvious that when it boils down to it, his feet can also do the talking as he had one of the most consistent seasons we have ever seen in the leagues existence, each month he came close to winning the award and is was his solo efforts during the grand final that almost looked to complete the fairy tale.

Roxas who seems to be bowing out along with the Soccer Kings has once again won the Golden Boot, only 1 goal shy of the magic 100 mark, he has impressively won 3 out of 4 Golden Boot awards and is easily the most prolific goal scorer this league has seen to date.
Congratulations to Roxas on this season's Golden Boot.

The world of football is always seeing change, so this may come as no surprise to us all now, but over the past month or so rumours and the eventual change of hands has now been complete.
We now see Awesome X fill in the role that Robbie Fowler previously did, I'd like to personally thank Robbie Fowler for his continued efforts that he has put into the league, without his services this league would not be anywhere near the level it is at today, his departure brought questions about the stability of the league but rest assured that what ACSSL needed was change, all this has seemingly come at a good time as we now get fresh ideas brought onto the league as it reaches its maturity.
I wish Awesome X a smooth transition in the role and ask of us all to give him the time and respect as he starts to implement some of his own ideas into this ever growing league.

One final thing, it is important that ALL TEAMS competing in this season's relegation to have their forms in by the 31st of august, relegations are set to commence on the 5th of September.

The Business End of the Season

Once again we approach the business end of the season, now we can finally look back at the fourteen rounds and praise the remaining four teams. While it’s pretty much ended as we all expected, I’d like to congratulate Armada on their first Minor Premiership and credit them on an impressive display throughout the season. Showing that maybe a team can challenge the Soccer Kings from obtaining a fourth consecutive finals title.

We also are set to see The Dream Team star in their first finals campaign and with the All Stars just scraping through in the end we are set for an interesting matchup. It will be an emotional match for the All Stars who now set themselves for their last finals appearance as a team - it’s going to be a sad day when one of the cornerstone teams in this league hang up their proverbial boots and I wish them well in their last finals series.

As we all know, form going into a final series is important. These fourteen weeks have been building up to this very moment and maybe there’s no better person to win the July Player of the Month than the Soccer King’s key figure, Roxas. He has once again shown that he’s the go-to man when Soccer Kings need goals, having impressed throughout the season and with him currently leading the Golden Boot he’ll wish he can emulate that form in the finals to help put Soccer Kings over the line.

Good luck to all the teams competing in this season’s final and may the best team win.

POTM: JUNE 2008 and State Of Origin

Well it's been a busy period for ACSSL the past few weeks, with the title contenders and pretenders coming to the fore as well as our much loved State of Origin tournament taking place last week. During that time we've seen a number of players put themselves up as possible finals heroes or gamebreakers in both league and origin contests, but it was the New South Wales players who once again stood tall in Origin V3.

Challenged in the first semi by a dogged Queensland, NSW managed to show their experience and quality of depth by managing to outlast them 10-6 at the end of play. In the other semi it was Victoria who finally managed to win their first ever Origin game against a lacklustre SAWA side 16-9. There were wild scenes from Victorian goalkeeper Senator Bob Brown after the realization that they "finally didn't fkn lose!!!!!!" took full effect. That effect wouldn't last into the final however as it was again NSW who showed a smoother gameplan and better execution to take the match in comfortable fashion 14-8. NSW once again reign supreme this year but the gap does appear to be closing a bit, it will be interesting to see what Origin in Season 5 will bring.

The POTM however, surprisingly does not come from a member of the winning NSW side. It does go to someone who has scored 32 goals and assisted 17 in his past 5 matches. This has helped propel his side to 2nd place on the table and ready to pounce on the current leaders Armada. The June 2008 POTM is awarded to current QLD Captain and SK spearhead Roxas. As the aforementioned figures show, Roxas has been on top of his game the past month having a hand in nearly 50 scoring plays for SK, and incredible stat by itself. SK will hope that Roxas continues his form on the run home and into the finals. Congratulations to Roxas, June 2008, POTM.

POTM: MAY 2008

With five rounds of season four having been completed thus far, we find ourselves busy spit-shining up the silverware for the first major player award of the season. This month's award goes to none other than the Queen of Ka soccer, Intangible. The newly signed Soccer Kings striker seems to be enjoying her move to the Kings court after having three un-successful seasons in the HellSpawns jersey. I guess you could say she's truely a prime example of the old saying "If you can't beat em, join em."

After having lost her star strike partner Zidane who was on the move overseas, Intangible was on the look out for a quality partner who could unleash her full potential up front. A move to the Soccer Kings where she would join the likes of two time golden boot winner Roxas up front would surely be enough to satisfy her lust for goals.
Season four started off with a bang for Intangible, or as some might phrase it a "Tang bang" as she proved to the Soccer Kings that they made the right choice in signing her, helping them crush last season finalist's the All Stars 17 - 1 and picking up four goals and three assists for herself as the Soccer Kings pulverized Robbie Fowlers All Stars outfit.

Her trademark consistency has shown throughout this season so far as she looks to continue this current flourishing form that has taken her to the point she is at now, The May 2008 Player of the Month. It seems Intangible's move to the Soccer Kings has given her a new lease of life in this league, one that many teams should fear when they are faced with the daunting task of attempting to control the deadly Intangible.

Congratulations to the May 2008 Player of the Month, Intangible.

Player of the Season: 3

As you all know, once a season one special player stands out above the rest. A benchmark of super consistency, inspiration and iron willed determination to be the best. It is not an award that can be won easily. It requires the best efforts of a player every single game, as it is the refs who award the points at the end of each match, and not a pocket of personal fans of a particular player. It is an award that cannot be doctored, as a player may get lucky once or twice, but it is not a measure of luck to be the only man on top of the proverbial player mountain at the end of the season. The conqueror of this player mountain this season, is none other than AS striker Statica. Statica has capped a truely monumental season, with this deserved award.

It was only a season ago that Statica was just another player with potential, plying his trade with a mid-table side. However, his move to AS at the end of S2 set the scene for what can be described as the complete embodiment of a breakout season. Grab yourself a chair as I rattle off the achievements of Statica this season:

Played a leading role in helping SAWA to an upset boilover against more fancied opponents Queensland in SOO, and proved to be a thorn in the side of SOO final opponents NSW. NSW eventually won the series comfortably, but it was not without a fight as the first two periods were a tight knit affair, often trading goal for goal with Statica in the thick of the action.

The enviable position of finishing 2nd in goals, one goal ahead of his Captain and 19 behind his other strike partner and eventual golden boot winner Scoper.

Far and away leading the assists table for the season, finishing a whopping 21 assists ahead of 2nd placed HS Striker _!ntangible.

Aaand, playing a key role alongside fellow AS Strikers Robbie Fowler and Golden Boot winner Scoper in their march to the final, where they were defeated in a controversial but tight affair, with SK winning 14-12 to complete the double, and their consecutive hat-trick of titles.

A truely remarkable season for a player who in all fairness, would not have been at the forefront of peoples minds as a player of star quality just a short season ago.

We caught up with Staticas club captain Robbie Fowler for his thoughts on Statica and his impact at AS

Fowler: "I don't think there's really much that I can say, that hasn't been said. But whilst Statica does like to use his mouth to rile up his opposition, he generally lets his actions on the pitch do the talking, and if you could quantify his impact on the pitch this year for AS into a piece of literature, you'd be looking at the next Pulitzer Prize winner. He's consistent, hard working, down to earth amongst his team mates which is important in trying to keep his feet grounded, and generally someone that is very positive to have around the side. I know that other newer members such as Skipgamer have really appreciated his influence and calmness that he brings to the side, and it is certainly easier for myself as it allows me to concentrate on my game as well as control the side. I couldn't think of a more deserving winner this year, and that is said without any club bias whatsoever. Even if it was, I don't decide the POTS, the referees of every match do, and if he can impress all of them enough to win this award, it doesn't really matter if someone screams bias. After my good friend, former partner in crime and AS foundation member Hrvat left, there was a big void left in the side. I believe that Statica has now filled this void, and I think the POTS award confirms my thoughts."

It is also interesting to note that the winner of the POTS has been on the losing side of the grand final in every season thus far. Will we see this trend continue, or will there be a winner in S4 who shatters this scenario. Only time will tell.

The Season that was...

November of '07 seems like such a long time ago, Round 1 was about to get underway and things looked far from anomalous as once again HellSpawns looked the team to beat even as the Soccer Kings, noted for their sometimes hot and cold form throughout the season, were bound to test them come finals time, All Stars and Obsidian looked to be safe bets to round off the Top 4, the question, I'm willing to bet, that was at the forefront of everyone’s minds was "will anyone come close to knocking HellSpawns off come Round 14?"

Round 1 was set to start and straight away we saw HellSpawns demolish the Soccer Kings and All Stars easily take care of Obsidian. Had anything really changed since the short break from Season 2?

It took them a while but Armada finally found their straps, and with crucial signings at the midway point of the season they looked to be the dark horse as the season drew to a near, Round 12 saw them tee off against Obsidian as both fought tirelessly for that last finals spot, Armada went on to win it and secured themselves their first finals appearance. Soccer Kings massive victories over Venomous Shooters and Carn United not only greatly increased their goal difference but made it impossible for the All Stars to catch them as they went on and won their first Minor Premiership just edging the All Stars out on goal difference.

Finals approached as Soccer Kings and the All Stars got set to do battle the very first round as seemingly nothing separated the two squads entering this match as both previous clashes ended in memorable draws, seeking to avoid a repeat the All Stars edged out a Soccer Kings’ outfit that looked slightly off target, All Stars had a ticket straight to the grand final as Soccer Kings would now have to prepare to face the winner of the Armada v HellSpawns game.

With Armada beating them only in the previous week tipsters liked the chances of this impressive Armada squad to knock HellSpawns out of the finals, Armada once again had too much flair as their fairy tale run home continued into the Preliminary Final. The ending seemed unjust as Armada just ran out of gas during important parts of the match and their inexperience showed as Soccer Kings proved why they are the only team to hold up the prized premiership cup.

Sunday the 16th, Soccer Kings and the All Stars would meet for the 4th time this season as one would go home the premiers as the other would rue a season that offered so much. It started at a frantic pace as the first goal was scored within seconds of the kick off, All Stars looking fired up and they took the early lead as the first period came to a end, the second period displayed how evenly these teams have been this season and roles were reversed as Soccer Kings fought their way back from a early setback and would find themselves neck and neck at 8 all going into the last 20 minutes of Season 3, who could of asked for a more fitting way to end a truly memorable season?

With the third period under way the All Stars took the lead and caught a glimpse of the light at the end of the tunnel that is finals victory, alas, it was at that moment that the Soccer Kings train came through and with an impressive final period display, finished strongly to take out the grand final and their third straight championship cup.

We also would like to congratulate both Xpoze and Carlos Tevez who have jointly won the March Player of the Month award with 5 votes each. During the business end of the season these two players were important parts of both team’s finals aspirations as it was imperative that the form of each and every player was at their maximum, Carlos Tevez has been a shining light in an impressive month that saw Armada stun the community by beating both the All Stars and HellSpawns to end the season, his ability to win the ball and keep Armada attacking at every opportunity has been a great assist since his inclusion into the squad and the backbone behind Armada’s resurgence since a very poor start. Xpoze who generally finds himself preventing the goals has had a successful month up front and proves that he can work both ways as it gives the Soccer Kings another trick up their sleeves coming into the final series.

Coming off his March PoTM award Carlos Tevez has continued his run of good form earning his second Player of the Month award in as many weeks, this time earning himself the Player of the Finals Award, Carlos Tevez was instrumental in their win over the HellSpawns and their only positive in a disappointing loss to Soccer Kings ending their finals campaign, in note of that I’d like to take my hat off to Enki from the Soccer Kings who deserves to share this award with Tevez, not only was he by far the best striker for them during the final series he was by far one of the best players in the final series and deserves a mention for his performance for his team.

With Season 3 being a great success, we now eagerly anticipate Season 4 and the ever exciting relegation playoffs, will this season produce another team like Armada who can challenge for the title? Maybe it will be your team!

However it won’t be if your team captain does not submit a team application by Friday 28th of March @ 11:59pm, use the application format found at click here, we wish all of you good luck for the relegation playoffs and cannot wait to see the teams battle it out for the Season 4 title.

I’d personally just like to thank Xpoze, Robbie Fowler, the Referees and everyone else involved in keeping this league running as smoothly as it has, it by far has been one of the most competitive seasons to date and look forward to seeing us all back out on the pitch as soon as possible.

Also keep an eye out for Player of the Season award announced very shortly, until then.

2 POTM's and SOO

First cab off the rank, we are congratulating not one, but two Player of the Month awards. Initially we were only going to do one for the holiday period but we felt that would be diminishing players efforts in the two months so we felt obliged to hand out two separate awards. Having said that, our first POTM award goes to Sharwing of HellSpawns, putting in numerous key defensive displays to help keep HS pushing for the minor premiership. For the month of January, the POTM goes to Statica from All Stars. Statica has been in the thick of the action with AS over January, contributing many key assists and goals that have helped propel AS to the top of the table. It is also ironic that both these players were key members of the SAWA origin which made a surprising Grand Final appearence, however succumbing to NSW in the decider.

On that note, we congratulate NSW for their successful title defence beating SAWA 16-8 in the decider. I have personally picked Carlos Tevez out as the Player of the Series, although I don't believe there will be any arguments there as he played brilliantly in the two matches.

We also bid a fond fairwell to ACSSL Owner Yianni, who will be taking a leap of absence to concentrate on his Year 12 studies. We thank Yii for all his efforts in helping run the league and wish him all the best in his studies, and hopefully will return to ACSSL sometime in the not too distant future.

With 4 rounds left before the finals, we have the top 3 sides all within 3 points of one another, and two teams battling it out for 4th spot. It will be an exciting end to S3 so I hope everyone in the community finds time to tune in to what will no doubt be a nailbiting finish to the end of the regular season.
